Malazan

Native Malazans come from the island of Malaz, southwest of the continent of Quon Tali. Malaz City and its sister city Jakata sit at opposite ends of the island and have a long tradition of piracy and smuggling. The entire island has long been known as a haven for some of the most ruthless criminal organizations Quon Tali has ever known. Malaz City is also known in certain circles for its high population of mages, the reasons for this are not entirely understood, but the fact has given the burgeoning empire a supply of magical support that is simply not enjoyed by most military organizations.
